Enrolled Agents (EAs) are America’s tax experts. EAs, CPAs, and attorneys have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. The difference between these 3 groups is that EAs concentrate on taxation matters while CPAs and attorneys deal in a wide range of financial and legal matters. In fact, many CPAs and attorneys do not deal with taxation at all. Thus, Enrolled Agents (as a group) truly are America’s tax experts.
In addition to a stringent testing and application process, the IRS requires EAs to complete 72 hours of continuing education every 3 years.
I, Craig Thomas, am an Enrolled Agent, admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.
